We Wear The Mask

Well before Covid-19 was a thing, people were wearing masks. Only they were invisible. The invisible masks function the same as the face coverings many now find themselves wearing amidst a public health pandemic- they both provide protection. The invisible mask provides emotional protection and allows you to shield your vulnerabilities so that you can feel safe. To others, you may appear uncaring, or emotionless but really inside you may feel uncertain about yourself, your choices and your future.

This invisible mask has proven useful during your life when you needed refuge from the pain and allowed you to function. But, there comes a time when the invisible mask must be put away to allow for healing and growth. See, if you never stop using it, you won’t ever know you’re true strength. The thought of unmasking and allowing yourself to be exposed and to experience some of the feelings you’ve pushed down may be scary and anxiety provoking, but it can happen in a safe space with a therapist you trust.

Therapy can help you to safely examine some of your unhealthy patterns of relating to yourself and others, and support you in identifying healthy ways of being in a non-judgmental way. This may take some time to do and may not happen right away. Be patient with yourself, trust the process, and reveal your inner resilience.
